Jennifer & Derrick | A Southern Louisiana Wedding
I first met Jennifer a couple of years ago when she brought her twin sons to an Easter mini session. She warned me that they might be a handful and of course I said, nah, I got this. Well, after they completely abandoned the Easter set up and made a break for the swing set, I knew I was in trouble. Boys will be boys though so I photographed them in their element, on the swings. I fell in love with those little cuties that day and am always thrilled to see them (even though they give me a workout!). About a year ago Jenn called me to see if I would photograph her wedding on Halloween. I was so disappointed because I had to decline. We have small children and that holiday is pretty important in my family. I was super bummed. Months passed and Jenn was still planning on an October wedding. We would talk about it occasionally and she would ask me to change my mind and I would sadly tell her I just couldn’t. One day she emailed me and asked if I was available on April 18th instead. I was so excited that I was available and that she had moved the date up. I just love this little family so much that it was breaking my heart to not be able to share this day with them.
They had a beautiful outdoor ceremony planned under a large oak tree on the family land. The reception was also planned for outdoors with tons of food, drink and merriment. The week of the wedding finally arrived and so did the rain. It rained every.single.day the week of the wedding. Not just a little rain, no. Monsoons. Every day. They had to think fast and bring in sand and hay for the ground, tents to keep everyone dry and find a backup ceremony location. Derrick’s cousin lived right down the road from and had an empty house that was for sale. It was a beautiful home and even though it wasn’t exactly what was planned, they went with it. The ceremony was small and intimate with only family and very close friends. It was a beautiful site seeing these two get hitched. 😉
After the formal portraits (which I am SUPER proud of Derrick for doing, haha) it was on to the reception where they were boiling 500 pounds of crawfish. Yes, 500 pounds! The rain was still coming down but everyone found shelter under the tents and had a grand ole time. Thank you, Jennifer and Derrick for trusting Ray and I with this most special day. Wishing you all of the love and happiness you can stand. ♥
xoxo,
Amber
